This is the new version of the Zanzibar map from Halo 2. The map is not finished and it won't be in the beta that starts on May 16th. I think the game looks great already, but I don't want to truly judge the games' visuals by an extremely compressed low rez video of a game that is several months from being finished. I posted this for those of you that haven't seen the new weapons and some of the deployable weapons like the shield bubble. I can't wait to see the game on my HDTV at home.

Wow. 2006 is almost over. We're all another year older and hopefully a little bit wiser. I'm pretty bored right now so I thought I'd make a little list of my favorite games and cd's that came out this year. Maybe you'll see something you might want to check out. Maybe you won't. I don't give a shit because it's my list.

10-Red Hot Chili Peppers (Stadium Arcadium)- A double album of decent tunes. Nothing fantastic, but nothing terrible. Actually, the only thing holding this one back is Anthony Kiedis.
9-Peeping Tom(Self Titled) Mike Patton does his version of pop music. Some hits and some misses.
7-Evanescence (The Open Door) I was pretty surprised by this one since I couldn't stand their last album.
6-Mastodon (Blood Mountain) Not for everyone, definetly for me.
5-Incubus (Light Grenades) Took a few spins to really enjoy it. Now I can't stop listening to it. It's more Crow Left of the Murder than Morning View.
4-Army of Anyone (self titled) The Deleo brothers from S.T.P with Richard Patrick from Filter. Great album.
3-Isis (In the Absence of Truth) Like a much heavier Pink Floyd. Check em' out if you haven't already.
2-Tool (10,000 Days) It's Tool. It was worth the wait.
1-Deftones (Saturday Night Wrist) I love this one. Probably the best cd these guys have put out, even better than White Pony.

My Top 10 Games of the Year
10 Resistance: FoM (PS3)- Great FPS. It doesn't do anything new. The weapons are cool, but a bit unbalanced and the multiplayer is way too frantic for 40 people. Tons of stuff on the screen at once with no slowdown. ever.
9 Fight Night Rnd 3 (360)
8 Viva Pinata (360)
7 Dead Rising (360)
6 Marvel Ultimate Alliance (360)

I guess I could take a minute to tell you guys a little bit about Southwest Asia. I can't say exactly where I was due to security reasons, but I can assure you it was hot as hell. Days were pretty much exactly the same every day. I'd wake up, take a shower, take a 15 minute bus ride to the other side of the base, eat, and then go to work. Since I work in a lab, I never really get to see the end result of what I do. I just know that because of what we do at work, the bombs fall on target and "bad" people die. Other than that, it was hot. It would get over 150 degrees on the flight line most days, and the humidity was ususally around 75 percent at night. I worked nights, and if it was 90 outside with 60 percent humidty, we thought it was beautiful. It could've been a lot worse though. I was really lucky that everyone I worked with was really cool and nobody complained about doing there job. We all knew it sucked and bitching about it wouldn't make it go away. Anyways, I'm sure there are a ton of things I am leaving out, but I'm starving right now so I'll right some more later if I think of anything good.

5-Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots/ Velvet Revolver)- Sure, some people think he's a homo (not that there's anything wrong with that), but I could give a shit less. As long as he's not singing about his supposed adventures in faggotry, I think he's great. Next.
4-Keith Caputo (Life of Agony) Great, underrated band. This little bastard sings his ass off..when he wants to. River Runs Red and Ugly are two of the my favortie cd's of all time.
3-Maynard James Keenan (Tool, A Perfect Circle)- Brilliant. Some people think he's kind of a weirdo because of some of the outfits he's worn on stage, but then again, how often do you think people bother him when he's walking down the street? I really hope I get to see Tool play again when I get back.
2-Layne Staley (Alice in Chains, Mad Season) Fucking heroin. This guy had one of the greatest voices I have ever heard, had one of the biggest bands in the world, yet he died from a speedball overdose and wasn't found until two weeks later. His lyrics and singing on AIC's second cd "Dirt" are fucking off the chain.
1 Mike Patton- This man can do it all, and do it all better than pretty much anyone else. He can scream like a fucking demon one second that sing like a Japanese school girl the next. He's a lifer too, he on at least 2 or 3 cd's a year with various projects and always mangaes to keep it fresh. Fantomas, Lovage, Peeping Tom, Tomahawk, Patton vs. the X-ecutioners....all of it is fucking insane.

Britain's Kerrang! magazine was granted an exclusive listening session to the just-completed, as yet-untitled fourth TOOL album, which is due out May, and has revealed that anyone expecting the Californian quartet to have gone soft with age willl be sorely disappointed. True to form, TOOL's upcoming opus is a 77-minute, 11-song prog-metal odyssey, packed with plenty of eight minute-plus twisted riff-a-thons, odd-tempo polyrhythms and the bands trademark, eerie interludes. It's also arguably their heaviest, most punishing material since their 1993 breakthrough album "Undertow", according to Kerrang!

"We've all been listening to a lot of MESHUGGAH," admitted guitarist Adam Jones. "I see a lot of them in us and us in them, and they really have a very experimental prog side to them. I don't think it was like, 'Okay, right here were going to play like MESHUGGAH,' but more, 'Oh my God, that's come out a MESHUGGAH moment.'"

"We have the most retarded President we've ever had, and we're frustrated and that's the reason it's a little heavier this time," drummer Danny Carey told Kerrang! "That level of frustration back like when we first got the band together: we were products of that fucking Reagan thing, we were pissed off and bummed out, we had that angst, and now it's coming forth again: like it or not, we're products of our environment. No stranger to weaving social and political frustrations into his tortuously articulate lyrics, singer Maynard James Keenan who released the politically-motivated covers album, "eMOTIVe" with A PERFECT CIRCLE in 2004, has chosen another approach this time around.

"I think for me, and this is just personally, the last few years have really been crushing," Keenan told Kerrang! "For me, as an artist, I needed to see on some level if speaking my mind would actually inspire people — you see the sky falling and you feel like you've got to say something. I think of prior TOOL albums 'AEnema' and 'Lateralus', lyrically, I had this idea of trying to share things and push some kind of higher purpose — enlightenment, this global consciousness thing — and everything that's going on nowadays has kind of left me a little disappointed, a little bummed.

"So I think on this album I've talked more about my personal stuff, things that I needed to get off my chest," he added. "It's a little cynical and it's almost like coming from a sad place. There's some hope in it, but it's more back to rock and roll basics, just expressing some very big sadness that's from the gut."

"This is our blues record, were singing the blues!" joked Carey.

"The difference is before, we had that young spunk and we thought we could actually say something and help people realise these things" continued Keenan. "But now, the anger is more of a frustrated anger, and me sitting back and going, 'Okay, I'm going to shut up now, I'm going to stop ranting and trying to be chicken little telling you that the sky is falling, I'm going to just let you guys get hit in the head.'"

In a few days, Dead or Alive 4 should finally be available. I have been dying to play this game and I am looking forward to whipping some ass on Xbox Live (that goes for all of you) I have been a huge fan of the series since playing Dead or Alive 2 on the Dreamcast at Master Dickinson's apartment and being totally blown away by it. I think I played Dead or Alive:Ultimate on my Xbox more than any other game, even Halo 2. Anyways, if you have a 360, you better be buying this game. If you don't have a 360, buy one immediatley you cheap bastard.

Penguins owner Mario Lemieux believes there is only "a slim chance" the franchise will remain in Pittsburgh after its lease at Mellon Arena expires in 2007.

Mario Lemieux -- "I think we're really running out of time."
Mr. Lemieux said yesterday that he "absolutely" believes the outlook is that bleak because of the lack of progress toward getting the up-to-date arena team officials have insisted for years is critical to keeping the Penguins here.

"I think we're really running out of time," said Mr. Lemieux, his tone laced with frustration. "We probably ran out of time already. It's been unfortunate that the city and the county haven't been willing to work with us over the last two or three years."

The Penguins' lease at Mellon Arena allows them to solicit offers for the franchise beginning in June 2006, one year before the lease is up.

Executives affiliated with a new arena in Kansas City have publicly expressed interest in acquiring the Penguins, and a group in Houston also is believed to covet them as a tenant for the arena there.

The Penguins' board of directors is scheduled to meet this week, and the long-term outlook of the team is sure to be a major topic of discussion.

"We'll sit down with everybody [to] understand what's at stake with our investment, and what's best for the franchise," Mr. Lemieux said.

The Penguins are one of several groups that will seek the license to operate a Downtown slots parlor and have pledged to put proceeds from that operation into construction of a new building. That, team officials have said, is the only realistic source of funding.

There is no guarantee the Penguins will be awarded the slots license, though. And because it is not expected to be awarded until late 2006 -- and because it generally takes about three years, to build an arena in this part of the country -- the Penguins would face the prospect of spending several more winters in a venue that cannot generate the revenue they believe is needed to make an NHL team financially viable.

"By the time we'd get the arena built, it's going to be another four or five years," Mr. Lemieux said. "Can we afford to stay here for another four or five years and assume the losses? I'm not sure."

Dick Skrinjar, spokesman for Mayor-elect Bob O'Connor, said last night that the new mayor is willing to work with the team to try to find a solution that would provide an arena for the Penguins and the city.

"In three weeks, Bob will be mayor and he's anxious to take up the challenge to work with the Penguins and every party involved to keep the Penguins in town and to pursue a multipurpose arena for the city," Mr. Skrinjar said.

However, he added that unless there is property tax relief in the city, there is no public money available to build such a facility.

"Slots and the slots developer are the best option at the moment. He's anxious to get everybody together to take a look at what's best for Pittsburgh," he said.

County Chief Executive Dan Onorato could not be reached for comment.

The Penguins are projecting a $7 million loss this season, and that figure assumes they will draw near-capacity crowds to most of their 41 regular-season home dates and advance to the second round of the playoffs.

There has been support among some public officials for using slots revenue to finance construction of an arena, regardless of who is awarded the license.

Late last week, however, the Pittsburgh Gaming Task Force declined to endorse that idea. Although that panel does not have a formal say in who gets the license, its recommendations are expected to at least be given consideration by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

"I really don't know what to think about that," Mr. Lemieux said. "Usually, that's not a good sign, but I'm not sure if they have a big say in who gets the slots. "They can make a recommendation, but at the end of the day, it's going to be up to the Gaming Board to decide what's best for the city and the community and what people bring to the table."

Anne Swager, task force co-chair, said last night that while members declined last week to endorse the use of slots revenue for an arena, that could change.

"I still think it's premature to say that we're not going to back an arena as a giveback. Maybe we will. We're just not at the point of making that decision at this point," she said.

1. I am happily married to my wife Heather, and we have 3 beautiful children. Ethan will be 3 in February, Aidan is 18 months old, and Gracie is 5 months old. Yes, we have our hands full, and yes, I am tired.

2. I love music. I have loved music for as long as I can remember, even when I was three years old, I remember watching Ozzy Ozbourne's "Bark at the Moon" on MTV. (remember when MTV played music videos?) Recently I have been listening to System of a Down, Johnny Cash, and LOTS of 80's music like The Cure and Billy Idol.

3. I am videogame fanantic. I have loved playing video games since I was a little kid and I doubt I will ever stop playing.

4. I have had two ACL reconstructions on my right knee. I pretty much have the knee of a 50 year old man now.

It took a few listens to grow on me, but this cd is insane. I think it's even better than Mezmerize, which is one of the best cd's I have ever heard. Good stuff here. I'm finally starting to recover from a nasty virus that left me pretty much a lump of shit for the past week. I still have a huge bruise on my arm from the two and half bags of fluid I had to get through an IV because I was so dehydrated. Today Heather and I are celebrating our 4 year wedding anniversary. I don't know what excactley we are going to do since going anywhere is a major chore with 3 kids, but I'm sure we'll find something to do. I can't belive how much has changed in the last four years, but I know I am a better person today than I was then, and my beautiful wife is a major part of that. I don't know what I'd do without her.

After nearly a week with my 360, I must say, this thing kicks some serious ass. I love the new Xbox Live stuff like the gamercard and seeing when my friends come online even when I'm watching a movie, and being able to talk them anytime they are on live, no matter what game they are playing, and no matter where I am in the world. Oh yeah, XBox Live Arcade is like gaming crack, being able to download old school arcard games and play them in high def resolution with other people on Xbox Live is awesome. I played Hexic, the Xbox Arcade game that comes free with the 360, till close to 3 in the morning last night. It was made by the same gut that invented Tetris, so you know that it is an absolutely brillinat game. I also hooked up the 360 to my PC using Windows Media Connect, which allows me to stream all of my music and pictures from my computer straight to my Xbox. It even let me change my background in the 360 dashboard with one of my pictures on the computer. If I had a Windows Media Center computer I'd be able to stream HD movies to my 360 and watch them on the bigscreen, but I think I've spent enough money this month. By the way, the games kicked me square in the balls. Perfect Dark is insane. It feels exactley like the original N64 version, but injected with more steroids than Jose Canseco could dream of. There are so many damn multiplayer modes that I still haven't even seen close to half of them. Kameo is fucking fantastic. The art style is beautiful, and the amount of stuff happens on screen at once would make the original Xbox cough up blood and die. Madden was kinda disappointing to me at first, but after changing the controls to fit my tastes, I love the game. The graphics are amazing of course, as well as the sound effects ( the fact that John Madden isn't doing the play by play is a great change) It does suck that so many modes have been taken away, but it just makes me want next year's version that much more. Project Gotham Racing 3, as expected, is stunning visually. I have always been a big fan of series trademark gameplay where you earn more points if you pull off impressive moves during the racing, but I haven't been able to play it too much since I am kind of addicted to Perfect Dark at the moment. I also rented Call of Duty 2 and Condemned, and I expect to get them early next week. Dead or Alive 4 comes out on Dec. 7, which is the game I have been anticipating the most for the 360 launch. I can't wait to go online and kick some ass as a Spartan from the Halo universe. Actually, I prefer Bayman and Hitmomi in DoA2 Ultimate, but from what I have read, the gameplay has changed a good bit and has also been sped up a lot also. I can't wait. I also threw in Halo 2 to see if it looked any different, and I was definetly pleasantly surprised. Since I have a big screen HDTV, every flaw in Halo 2 stood out like a sore thumb when I played it on my orinial Xbox. But with the full screen AA and HDTV resolution, this game looks much, much better. Just another great reason to own a 360. Ahhh, look it how I have rambled on. This system is fantastic. If you are a fan of videogames at all, I suggest picking one up as soon as you possibly can. It is definetly worth every penny.

I got the 360 today. All I can say is "HOLY SHIT!" It went above my expectations in every possible way. The games looked and played great, and the new Xbox Live upgrades are brilliant. In fact, I'm going to go play it again right now.

After months and months of waiting, the Xbox 360 finally arrives this Tuesday. Well, for some of us at least, some people didn't preorder soon enough and now they have to wait for the next shipment. I am number 9 out of 27 at my EBgames, so I just have to walk in and sign for mine since I already have it paid off. Here is what I got.

The cool thing about all this is that I got everything I listed above for a grand total of 275 bucks after trading in my Gamecube ( or the Nintendo Dustcollecter as I like to call it) selling my Xbox and lots of games. If I would've paid full price for everything, it would've cost me close to 900 dollars. I think I got a pretty good deal, don't you?
I also want to get Project Gotham Racing 3 at some point(edit-I am getting PGR 3 on launch day when I pick up my 360.) And I am definetly getting Dead or Alive 4 the day it comes out (you can play as a Spartan soldier from Halo!). I have been a huge fan of the Dead or Alive series since the first time I played Dead or Alive 2 on the Dreamcast at one of Trip's apartment's. And according to the creator of the DoA series, this will be the last Dead or Alive fighting game. I will post my thoughts/reviews of everything Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. I was thinking of just buying my own domain name and starting my own gaming website, but I don't know if I'll be able to invest the necessary time into it.. It would be fun though since I'm such a gamer nerd. Oh well, I better get to bed.

Two Carolina Panthers cheerleaders were charged after their arrest at a bar where witnesses told police the women had sex in a restroom.

Renee Thomas, 20, of Pittsboro, N.C., and Angela Keathley, 26, of Belmont, N.C., were taken to Hillsborough County Jail early Sunday.

Witnesses said the women were having sex in a stall with each other, angering patrons waiting in line to get into the restroom at the club in the Channelside district.

Thomas was charged with battery Sunday after allegedly striking a bar patron when she was leaving the restroom, then landed in even more trouble after police said she gave officers a driver's license belonging to another Panthers cheerleader who was not in Tampa.

Thomas, who made the trip to Florida for Sunday's game between the Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was released from jail on $500 bail before police learned she was not the person she claimed to be.

Providing police with a false name is a misdemeanor. However, Thomas was charged Monday with giving a false name and causing harm to another -- a third-degree felony punishable by probation or a jail term of 1 to 5 years, said police spokeswoman Laura McElroy.

Meanwhile, detectives are trying to determine how Thomas gained possession of the driver's license of the third cheerleader.

Keathley, charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, was released on $750 bail about an hour before the Panthers played the Bucs at Raymond James Stadium. The cheerleaders were not in town to perform at the game.

PITTSBURGH -- Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is interested in buying his hometown Pittsburgh Pirates, but the ownership told him the team isn't for sale despite its ongoing streak of 13 consecutive losing seasons.

In an e-mail response to The Associated Press, Cuban said Monday he looked into buying the team recently, but "they told me they have no interest in selling."

Cuban's interest in the team he grew up rooting for is well known, but this is the first time he has acknowledged wanting to buy the Pirates. Previously, he said he would look into acquiring a stake only if the Pirates were put up for sale or if acquiring a lesser share of the team would help keep it in Pittsburgh.

"The Pirates are not for sale," club vice president Patty Paytas said, responding to Cuban's comment.

The Pirates were bought 10 years ago by a group assembled by newspaper heir Kevin McClatchy, the managing general partner. The largest investor is Wheeling, W.Va., newspaper publisher G. Ogden Nutting and his two sons, who were initially brought into the group by McClatchy in 1996 and have since acquired at least a 25 percent stake of the 119-year-old franchise.

While McClatchy's group probably prevented the franchise from moving elsewhere and was successful in persuading lawmakers to build PNC Park, the team has had 10 consecutive losing seasons since the purchase and has only once finished within five games of .500.

The Pirates had the third-lowest payroll in the majors last season and have declined to pursue upper-tier free agents actively, attempting instead to build with lower-priced prospects.

That probably wouldn't be the case under Cuban, a billionaire who has spent millions building the Mavericks into one of the NBA's top franchises, though they have yet to win an NBA title since he acquired them in 2000.

Cuban also attempted to buy into a Pittsburgh sports team before purchasing the Mavericks, talking with Mario Lemieux's ownership group as it was buying the NHL's then-bankrupt Pittsburgh Penguins in 1999. But the group wanted Lemieux to be the face and voice of the organization and was unwilling to allow Cuban to play an active role in the team's day-to-day operations.

With the 360 coming out in a little over 3 weeks, I am still trying to make up my mind about which 3 games I should get with it. I know I am definetly getting Madden, and after spending some quality time with this game on a kiosk at Wal-Mart, I know the second game on that list. Kameo is possibly the best looking game I have ever played, and the demo version I played didn't even have it's final coat of paint, so it will look slightly better when the final version is out. It took me a minute to get used to the controls, but once I had em' down, I couldn't stop playing. You switch forms with the face buttons (A, B,X,Y) and the attacks are performed with the left and right triggers. Kameo takes the form of 10 different beasts throughout the game, and they all have unique attacks and combination attacks. I could probably blab on for hours about this game, and I only played a 20 minute demo of it. So, if you are getting a 360, do yourself a favor and buy this game. System of a Down will release Hypnotize, the second of two albums recorded at the same time, on November 22. Every preview for the album so far says the album is just as insane, if not more so, than Mezmorize. I personally can't wait for this CD, since Mezmorize was probably the best record I have heard in years. Anywho, here is a short preview article and a link to their website where you can listen to their new single and check out all their videos.

According to bassist Shavo Odadjian, System of a Down had planned to open Hypnotize — the second half of the band's Mezmerize/ Hypnotize double LP — with the sweeping instrumental "Hezze." Instead, the track was dropped entirely from the album and will be released at some point in the future on an EP or single.

"We wanted to start off really heavy," Odadjian said.
And as System's fans will learn on November 22, when the 12-track/40-minute album hits stores, "Attack" fulfills that mission admirably, with speed-metal blast beats and brutal, start-stop riffage that raise System to new levels of heaviness .

There are numerous similarities between the two albums: Both are rife with tandem vocals from frontman Serj Tankian and guitarist Daron Malakian, as well as unconventional and drastic time changes, blistering guitar sections interspersed with placid moments, and tracks that blend seamlessly into one another. But Hypnotize, taken as a whole, is a more thunderous and mystifying LP.

The mind-pulverizing racket of the album's second cut, "Dreaming," is highlighted by Malakian's crisp vocals, which dispense bizarre lyrics like, "For treated indigenously, digenously/ Human right is private blue chip, pry." Simultaneously, Tankian's frenzied voice rattles off lyrics at breakneck speed: "We're the prophetic generation of bottled water, bottled water/ Causing poor populations to die, to die, to die."

Malakian is the star of "Kill Rock 'n Roll," on which he proclaims, "I felt like the biggest a--hole/ When I killed your rock 'n roll," with an almost Bon Scott delivery. The song, which the band has been playing live for months, eventually morphs from jarring, start-stop rhythms into minimal guitars and neo-funk drumming. Next up is "Hypnotize," the album's first single, which features Middle Eastern-tinged guitars and keen lyricism: "Why don't you ask the kids at Tiananmen Square/ Was fashion the reason why they were there?"

"Stealing Society" kicks off its fervent tempo with a bassline that sounds co-opted from the Descendents and follows with fierce drumming, frantic guitar abuse and breakdowns galore. "Vicinity of Obscenity" finds Tankian repetitively speed-belting some characteristically nonsensical lyrics — "Banana, banana, banana, terra cotta/ Banana, banana, banana, terra cotta pie" — before the track wanders into disco lunacy, with Serj crooning, "Do we all learn defeat/ From the whores with bad feet?"

The convulsive, fast-paced "Tentative" features an electric cello toward the end, capping off three minutes of spastic vocals and crushing bass hooks. The gentle guitars featured in the triumphant "U-Fig" — which are sandwiched between ferocious riffs — recall Red Hot Chili Peppers axeman John Frusciante's solo strumming. "Holy Mountains," which showcases Tankian and Malakian's powerful harmonies, pummels the listener with bruising drums and guitar licks, but then softens the blow with delicate violins and orchestration.

Malakian handles the bulk of the vocals on "Lonely Day," with Tankian surfacing for the track's harmonized choruses; the tune's complex, intricate riffs leave one wondering just how System are going to replicate it live. Violins are employed once again during Hypnotize's closer, the politically charged "Soldier Side," which completes "Soldier Side (Intro)," Mezmerize's opening track. "They were crying when their sons left/ God is wearing black," Tankian wails. "He's gone so far to find no hope/ He's never coming back."

Hypnotize will be released as both a CD and a DualDisc, with the latter containing behind-the-scenes footage shot during the making of both records.
